Healing is a process that takes time. Therefore, I recover at my own speed.
I am only human. I realize that my emotional recovery must take its natural course.
If I rush the recovery process, I may pay less attention to my experiences and actually end up taking longer to heal. So, I take each day as it comes and let my emotions roam freely.
If I feel like crying, I allow myself to cry without telling myself to toughen up. And if I feel angry, I allow myself to be angry, with the sole restriction of behaving safely with others and myself.
Though at times the healing process may be painful, embracing the reality of what I am feeling is the only way I can truly move past negativity.
Sometimes, the healing process may take weeks. Other times, it may take months or longer. The important thing is that each day gets easier.
Now, I allow my emotional journey to flow naturally. However, the whole idea behind recovery is to recover. And I always keep this in mind.
Rather than reminiscing or feeling sorry for myself, I remind myself of all of the happiness that awaits me in the future; all I have to do is let it in.
Today, I accept what I’m feeling and I take baby steps to move past it. Tomorrow can be a better day, and the day after that can be even better. My small efforts lead the way to emotional recovery.
Self-Reflection Questions:
1. Do I put on a tough exterior to mask my true feelings?
2. How do I deal with emotional pain?
3. Do I make an honest effort to pick up the pieces after feeling heartbreak?
