I can let go of my desire for cigarettes. My life plan leaves cigarettes out of the picture because I know I am stronger than my current need for them.

I realize that I pull out a cigarette to help me cope with stressful situations. In uncomfortable situations, smoking is an accessory to help ease my tension, yet I am certain that my body can do without a cigarette to cope with stress.

There are dozens of other forms of stress relief that, unlike cigarettes, are healthy and productive.

Not only does smoking put my health at risk, but it also makes it increasingly difficult to perform everyday activities, such as running, jogging, and walking up a flight of stairs. I am beginning to feel the health effects now, and I know they become progressively worse with age.

Furthermore, I am also putting my family at risk for secondhand smoke. I realize that I would feel terrible if my children or spouse developed medical complications due to my smoking habit.

Undoubtedly, smoking causes my health to take a hit. But, it also affects my wallet. Life and health insurance costs more for smokers. And the cost of a pack of cigarettes is on the rise. Surely, I can put that money to better use.

Today, I choose to break away from my dependency on cigarettes once and for all. I love life too much to risk it all for an unhealthy habit I can do without.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. Do I smoke to help me cope with uncomfortable situations?
2. When did I begin to smoke and why?
3. What am I going to do, today, to kick the habit?
