I keep my composure and respond gracefully in heated situations. I am sometimes faced with enraging situations but I know that responding negatively would only make the situation worse.
To me, the situation that I find myself in is less important than how I respond to it. I can only control my own actions. I have loads of life experience under my belt. Therefore, I have acquired the necessary maturity in order to hold myself together in tough situations.
Sometimes, if the situation becomes too heated, I find it best to walk away. I choose to be the bigger person and respond in a calm, cool, and collected manner. Walking away from a situation before it gets out of control allows me to diffuse my emotions.
Another tactic I like to employ is simply kindness. As an old adage says, “you can attract more bees with honey than you can with vinegar.”
This reaction may upset those who are immature and enjoy arguing, but I have no time in my life for drama, so I immediately distance myself from these types of people. I can find new friends with compatible personalities to mine.
Today, I diffuse the fire and simply walk away. A fire is unable to grow without fuel, and I prefer save my fuel for productive tasks.
Self-Reflection Questions:
1. Do I enjoy arguing with other people?
2. Do I often release my steam on those who are undeserving of it?
3. How can I keep my composure in a heated situation?
