Now that I am wiser, I am at peace with myself. I know my wants, needs, and plans for life. Yet, I also know my capabilities and limits.
Sometimes, I set unrealistic expectations for myself. But that stops today. I am only human. Therefore, I can only accomplish so many things at one time. And I can only work at a human speed.
Realistically, I know that I am unable to healthily lose 20 pounds in two weeks. And I also know that it would be tough to win a 10k race without prior training. Much the same, I avoid chasing dreams that are clearly out of reach.
I pride myself on my goal-setting abilities. But what I am even more proud of is achieving goals! I am the master of my goals. I accomplish all of my goals because I am realistic about my expectations.
My realism benefits me in other areas of my life as well. I am also realistic about what I expect from others.
I know that my loved ones and romantic interests have lives of their own. And I know that their responsibilities come before tending to my personal needs. Keeping this mindset shields me from heartbreak and aggravation.
Today, I see things for what they are. My expectations of others and myself are realistic and on par with what I know I can achieve.
Self-Reflection Questions:
1. Do I expect others to drop everything to please me?
2. Do I often achieve my goals?
3. Am I realistic with the timeframe I set for achieving goals?
